Lee Thompson Racing heads to the second round of the 2016 Comsol VW Challenge with a spring in its step and plans to have all five of its Volkswagen Polos well up their class podiums at Zwartkops Saturday 19 March.

“We had a very good start to the season at Welkom with an overall win and good positions all round,” team boss Lee Thompson said. “Now with a few weeks extra to remedy the few first race quirks we still had in our cars, we hope to step up a another performance notch.”

Tasmin Pepper was frustrated to lose her overall first heat win at Phakisa to wildcard Sheldon van der Linde before bouncing back to a spectacular second heat and overall win. “I don’t want any mistakes this weekend,” Campos Transport Alpine VW Polo driver Tasmin admitted. “I want pole, two race wins and two fastest laps; nothing less!”

One man who respectfully intends stopping his pretty blonde teammate from getting away with it is Tasmin’s Class A Lee Thompson Racing teammate Waldie Meintjies. “I have to give it to Tasmin, she will be hard to beat, but we were close enough last time out to be confident that I will at least break Tas’ planned clean sweep!” Meintjies suggested

Lee Thompson Racing also has three cars running in Comsol VW Challenge Class B for the RCS Security Services and Direction Management-backed Stewart brothers Daine and Milé and two wheel graduate Michael Harris.

The Stewart brothers both enjoyed strong race performances at Phakisa with Daine third and Milé fourth in class overall. “I am not interested in just moving one place up – that win is what I want,” Daine stressed. “Yes, but you need to beat me first,” Milé teased.

Harris remains quietly confident. “Phakisa was a baptism of fire but now I know what to expect,” Michael, who stepped into a car following a career racing superbikes and enduro motorcycles promised. “Slowly, slowly catch the monkey – I look forward to learning and improving even more this weekend.

The Thompson Racing five will compete among a full Comsol Challenge grid in a packed and varied national raceday bill at Zwartkops – all of which makes a trip to the Pretoria circuit more than worth the while…
